Collect for Episcopal Youth Event 2011

Gracious and Loving God, you declare your glory and show forth your creation in the heavens and the earth. Deliver us from the service of self, that we may build upon the work you give us to do in truth and beauty; that we may share your love with others and fulfill your mission, for the sake of him who came among us as servant, your son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

In discerning a collect for EYE, the worship team drew upon the liturgical resources of the Church including The Book of Common Prayer and A New Zealand Prayer Book to develop a familiar foundation that is universal to many. Using this foundation, the collect was created by incorporating not only the themes and goals of EYE, but the themes and goals of the Episcopal Church as well. The daily themes for EYE, Build, Share, and Fulfill, are referenced, and Matthew’s Gospel, the scripture for EYE 2011, and the Five Marks of Mission were reflected upon before proceeding in the creation of this powerful prayer.

The EYE Mission Planning Team invites you to meditate and pray over this new collect. Use this prayer as a method to offer prayers for EYE planners, registrants, bishops, and all involved in this sacred gathering of our church’s youth.
